UNDERFLOOR HEATING

A-Tech Flooring® Laminate and Rigid Vinyl flooring are suitable for installation over underfloor heating systems.

It is important to choose compatible radiant heat system and the right underlayment. Only the manufacturer of the heating product can guarantee the suitability of their system.

For best results, please follow these rules:

  1. Follow the instructions from the supplier of the floor heating system.

  1. Ask a heating installer to test your underfloor and prepare a report on its heating response.

  1. Mineral substrates must be warmed up gradually before installing the flooring, otherwise they might crack or moisture may be permanently trapped inside them.

  1. Concrete subfloors must be installed and cured with no heat transfer for a minimum of 60 days.

  1. The PH level of concrete sub-floors should register between 6 and 9.

  1. The heating system must be in operation for at least 3 weeks before installation. The system may be turned off or set to a suitable installation temperature (65 to 72°F).

  1. After completing the installation, do not change/adjust the radiant heat settings for at least 48 hours. At any given time after the initial 48 hour period, the homeowner should only increase or decrease the temperature settings 4 to 5 degrees per day, so that the Laminate or Rigid Vinyl flooring can gradually adjust to the temperature changes.

  1. The flooring surface temperature, which is the surface of the subfloor or the heat radiating from electric heating mats, should not exceed 80°F for Laminate flooring and 79°F for Rigid Vinyl flooring.

Note: It is important to note that when Laminate or WPC/SPC flooring is used over a radiant heating system, minor gapping can occur and should be expected. Maintaining consistent relative humidity levels will help to minimize this occurrence. Seasonal changes can also have the same effect on laminate, so temperature and humidity controls should always be monitored to ensure the best performance.
